In the Fall of 2002, the California
Friday Night Live Partnership made available one-time grants,
of $1,500, to support youth-driven, action-oriented projects.
Youth councils throughout California, in collaboration with
their local Friday Night Live chapter, were encourage to apply
for this grants through a Youth In Action RFA process. These
funds are made possible through a generous grant from the Office
of Traffic Safety to the California Youth Council project.
To be considered for funding, youth councils
were to demonstrate they would provide a meaningful project
and/or activity that will address an identified need in their
community, as well as provide an opportunity for diverse youth
to come together to educate, learn, and celebrate. Applying
youth councils were requested to demonstrate how their proposed
project and/or activity would address one, or as many, of the
areas:
- Alcohol and other related drugs and traffic
safety.
- Traffic and bicycle safety.
- Advocacy regarding a traffic safety issue.
- Violence prevention.
- Youth leadership development with a focus
on traffic safety.
- Underage drinking/drunk driving.
- Speeding/reckless driving
